Keep your license alive: renewals, CE, and the 30-hour course

The rules are simple once you see them in one place — and your association dues already pay for the courses. Nobody at this office should ever pay for basic CE or lose a license to a missed deadline.

The Indiana rules

  1. 12 CE hours every year for all Indiana brokers, from a state-approved provider. The CE "year" is the state's fiscal year: July 1 – June 30. Official requirements: IPLA — Continuing Education Requirements.
  2. New brokers: no CE for your first two years — a 30-hour post-licensing course instead. You must complete it within your first two years of licensure; after that, the annual 12 hours kicks in. State details: IPLA — Real Estate Licensing Information. Ask the office before paying for a post-licensing course — we'll point you at the best option.
  3. Licenses renew every three years through the state's online portal — the cycle just turned over on June 30, 2026, so the next renewal deadline is June 30, 2029. Check your own expiration any time on the IPLA license lookup.
  4. Managing brokers: 4 of your 12 annual hours must be the state's special managing-broker curriculum (the free package below includes it).
  5. Keep your certificates; don't submit them. Indiana doesn't want your completion certificates unless you're audited — save the PDFs somewhere you'll find them.

The free CE — already in your dues

  1. Every IAR member gets a 12-hour online CE package free, every year — that's your entire annual requirement, covered, through IAR's school (RECP). Full details in MIBOR's Member Benefit CE article.
  2. Get your RECP login (don't create a new account, and don't pay): email info@recp.org with your full name, or call 800-742-4067, weekdays 9–5 ET.
  3. Log in at recp.instructure.com, find the current CE package under Registrations, and click Access Course.
  4. Work at your own pace. Courses can be taken in any order, stopped and restarted; complete a full course (4 hours) to earn its certificate, and download certificates right after the end-of-course assessment.
  5. Ethics is baked in. The package rotates in the ethics training often enough to keep you current on the every-three-years ethics requirement.
Put two dates in your phone right now: a yearly reminder in early June to confirm your 12 hours are done before June 30 — and if you're newly licensed, your 30-hour post-licensing deadline (two years from your license date). Sixty seconds of calendar work protects your whole career.
